Hello everyone! It’s been a while.
The last week and a bit have been crazy in college, so let me just dive right in.
I was beginning to lose focus with my project and it was stressing me out- I don’t deal with stress too well- anyone who knows me can vouch for that!
So, instead of dwelling on this any longer I decided to go find one of my tutors to have a one-to-one tutorial. Easier said than done! Last Monday I emailed the tutor whose group I was in for this fortnight, asking for a tutorial the following morning. Long story short, it was awful. This was mostly due to his attitude which really got to me- none of my work seemed worthwhile- I was more or less told to start from scratch. This would have been fine, if an ideas isn’t good, fair enough. What I had a problem with was the way he questioned my methods of doing things, saying stuff like I am “too structured”, that my mind maps are “too neat”, overall, I am “too organised”. I don’t know, the way I reacted at the time wasn’t good and I wasn’t going to get work done in that mindset so I left college early and went out to see some friends in U.L. They made my day much better and I am so happy I have people to pick me up when I’m down. 🙂
After the initial period of “what the fuck is his problem?” and all of the other things I was thinking, I began to come to terms with it. I started brainstorming lots of ideas again and I think once I finished those I was hopeful about starting something new.
On Thursday we had a group talk with Jason Nash, a second year who had gone through the same horrific process as us, just a year earlier. Though he claims he is crap at public speaking, he was quite good at it. He was full of information and good advice for us. It was well worth attending. Check out his tumblr here.
I also caught up with Jason as I was leaving my studio on Friday and had another little chat- he really is a sound guy and very willing to help. He provided a good end to a week that was challenging at best.
I’ve come to realise that I’m going to have to update my college blog much more frequently than I initially thought and so I won’t be able to post absolutely everything here, but here are my mind maps and the progression of Yoda over the past week or so- not that Yoda is relevant anymore! But anyway, enjoy!
I’ve decided to look at doing a take on modern fairy tales. Hopefully things will go okay from here, I’ve started researching so I hope it won’t be time wasted.
Until next time,
